Un portrait du groupe culte de l'indie rock américain. Séance présentée par le réalisateur Jeff Feuerzeig et Jad Fair en personne.
Jad et David Fair n'ont jamais vraiment su jouer d'un instrument. Cela ne les a pas empêché de fonder Half Japanese en 1975, avec le but clairement assumé d'écrire la meilleure chanson de tous les temps.
Même s'ils ont peut-être failli à cette mission, ils n'en sont pas moins devenus un groupe adulé par toute une scène indépendante, lo-fi et avant-gardiste et comptent parmi leurs fans Nirvana, Sonic Youth ou Yo La Tengo pour ne citer qu'eux. HALF JAPANESE: THE BAND THAT WOULD BE KING retrace l'histoire de ce groupe inclassable, improbable et indépendant de toute mode.
